The processes of spirantization and elision of /d̪/ have been recurrent in the history of Spanish and they have been studied in its geographical, social and stylistic dispersion. Hispanic dialectology and sociolinguistics have revealed three variants in intervocalic and final contexts: approximants [ð], [ð] and elision [Ø]. The majority of these works are based on atlas cartography, on the impressionistic selection or on spectrographic data.
