Stability conditions for quivers I

I will explain how geometric invariant theory gives rise to the numerical (and categorical) condition of theta-semistability for representations of quivers and describe its relationship to the classical slope semistability of Mumford and also to Schofield's construction of determinantal semi-invariants.
