Research partner and search methodology expert : the role of the librarian in systematic reviews

The systematic review is a relatively new methodology using rigorous, standardised methods for locating and assessing studies and explicit and transparent methods to minimise bias. Originating in the health sciences systematic reviews are increasingly adopted in other disciplines to synthesise research and inform decision-making. This chapter describes how the skills of the librarian make a significant contribution to the success of the systematic review and how the academic librarian’s role in this type of research is changing from support to partner.
