Hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide gated (HCN) channels are structurally similar to voltage gated potassium channels and play pivotal roles in cellular pacemaking. Their physiological relevance is illustrated by the fact that genetic mutations in HCN channels are associated with cardiac arrhythmias.
