The field of corrections is anticipating a change in the present system of releasing inmates from prison. This new development has been described in a variety of terms. However, for purposes of this study, it will be referred to as "The Mandatory Release System". This concept is defined as " a system whereby those inmates who are not granted regular parole, have the opportunity to accept release, after serving three-quarters of their sentence, provided they accept supervision for the statutory remission period of their sentence."
