This study assesses the potential social disruption from a major earthquake striking the Metro Vancouver region. The Metro Vancouver region has experienced substantial population growth over the last thirty years, and this is anticipated to continue into the coming decades. Regional population growth has in the past, and is anticipated to continue to be concentrated in suburban communities. Many of these communities are located on soils considered susceptible to soil amplification and liquefaction in an earthquake.
