This study describes the acquisition of phonology by three children learning Cantonese as their native language. Wai, the primary subject in the study, was observed longitudinally for a period of a year. Wing and Ching, the other two subjects, were observed cross-sectionally for purpose of comparison. Unlike other studies of the acquisition of Chinese phonology, this study proposes an explicit set of analytic procedures and criteria for the phonological analysis of children acquiring Cantonese.
