The mass transfer of oxygen in clean water depends on many variables, which have been well researched and documented in the literature. For all practical purposes, the clean water mass transfer can be explained satisfactorily by the Lewis-Whitman two-film theory. However, oxygen transfer in wastewater process conditions is not well understood and the mechanism is unclear. The role of reaction rates and oxygen uptake rate (OUR) on the mass transfer phenomenon, under the process conditions, is in debate for a long time.
