Leicester Mercury article on Benjamin Russell and Sons Ltd. during First World War, with photograph of employees at work.THIS photograph of staff at Benjanlin Russell's hosiery factory, in Leicester, was taken during the First World War. Staff have taken a break from work to have their picturetaken. The flags and bunting in the factory suggest the firm was fully cont1nitted to the war effort. The picture was sent to me by Mr Dennis Orme, ofAylestone, whose mother, Millicent (nee Bolingbroke), and aunt, Jessie, appear in the · picture. His mother's brother, Herbert Bolingbroke, a soldier, was killed on March 21, 1918, aged 25. The factory, in Eastern Boulevard, has now been turned into fiats. 1 I j • l • • • • •
