Utilisation of recycled paper mill sludge using circulation fluidised bed boiler

India is one of those countries which is in the first track of globalisation. With the advent of globalisation in India its industries are becoming more and more energy intensive and India's fossil energy reserve is not enough to mitigate this energy demand for the next 50 years. Finding an alternative source of energy has become the buzzing word among the policy makers and the industrialists. The present paper discusses utilisation of a recycle paper industry sludge by incinerating in a circulation fluidised bed boiler (CFB) for a plant of 23100 tonnes of newsprint quality paper production annually generating 15% sludge. After ultimate and proximate analysis of the sludge a thorough designing of the CFB was performed with considerations to various accessories and safety parameters. An economic evaluation was also performed to measure the influence of such a technology on the plant economics. The present method resulted in providing low pressure steam to 23 pairs of calenderia required for final drying operations on the paper pulp. This resulted in reduction of process utility cost and thus, enabling greater profit margin
