The etymology of the Insular Celtic name for «compagnon, client, spouse » . céile, W. cilydd, Bret. (k) ile could be explained by the verbal stem * ḱei-«to lay » starting from * ki-lo-s (with lengthened -i-in Brittonic) / * kei-lo-s.
