Specimens with three different orientations have been cut from a gem quality andalusite single crystal. Uniaxial compression at various temperatures combined with TEM investigations of the deformed samples show that [001] {110} is the easy glide system of andalusite, the elastic limit of which increases with increasing temperature while very long and very straight c screw dislocations are left in the crystals. It is suggested that these c screw dislocations are dissociated out of the {110} glide plane and that this dissociation would become wider as temperature increases.
