Jan JOOSTEN : The Syriac Tradition of the Gospel Text and the Question of the «Aramaic Substratum ». The Syriac witnesses of the gospel text contain a number of elements that do not reflect the Greek text but appear to go back to a primitive, Aramaic, stage of the tradition of the words and acts of Jesus. These reading, it seems, are the last traces of a Palestinian Aramaic tradition used by the Jewish-Christian missionaries who stand at the beginning of the Eastern Church (before AD 150).
