Analisis Kemampuan Siswa dalam Menyelesaikan Soal Materi Segiempat Berbasis Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) pada Siswa Kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Kemalang Tahun Ajaran 2019/2020

The research aimed to analyze student ability and causing of misunderstanding of class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Kemalang in the resolution of high school mathematical problems based on High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The type of this research is descriptive qualitative. Subject used in this study are class VII B SMP Negeri 2 Kemalang. Technique of data in this research is to using the test method and interviews. Data validation was done by triangulation technique. Data analysis technique was done by means of data reduction, data presentation, and making conclusion. The result of the research shows that (1) The ability of students at the cognitive level analyze that students are able to mention information but have not been able to relate the information obtained, the ability of students at the cognitive level evaluate that students are able to search the data presented but in making decisions students are still unable to choose and combine the data presented, the ability of students at the cognitive level create that students only can mention information without being able to combine it to create new products (2) The reason students can not understand the questions is that students are not used to HOTS based questions, they are only used to working on problems related to remember, understand and apply
