This article analyses Miguel de Cervantes’s work Don Quixote de la Mancha. Our aim is to look into the reading practices and readers portrayed in Cervantes’s book. We thus consider his work as a product of the possible relations between the author and his epoch. We argue that Don Quixote interweaves reality and imagination and that it is at once ingenious and true. Such conception brings about the issue of the mediations between history and literature, about which the article makes some considerations.
