Cavitation is the rapid growth and subsequent collapse of air bubbles in a liquid. This phenomenon occurs in many fluid systems such as marine propulsors, artificial heart valves and in the nozzles of fuel injectors. Cavitation is often seen as a nuisance as it causes unnecessary damage to these structures as the collapse of bubbles in the system can cause surface erosion and damage. In fuel injectors however, some cavitation is necessary to improve the atomization of the spray leading into the combustion chamber. It is evident that modeling cavitation for fast and accurate computation of this phenomenon is vital in the design of fluid systems in which it occurs. Preferred computational models are Eulerian in nature and utilize the Volume o...
