The discoveries continually being made in the study of schizophrenia have shown the complexity of this serious mental disorder. Research has enabled intervention to be redirected to focus on areas of maximum impact and efficacy. Currently, studies concur that the majority of people with schizophrenia exhibit deficits in non-social cognitive functioning, in performance in social cognition tasks and clearly in social functioning.
