International audienceDuring the Upper Palaeolithic period, in northern Aquitaine, flints are moved on long distances. These raw materials are circulating east-west along the Dordogne river, linking the Gironde to the Massif central. This observation complements the occupation of space model proposed by R. K. White. The sites located in the lower Vézère valley are related to massive butchering of reindeers happening during their migration. They are winter settlements. In the neighbouring regions, the other groups of sites seem to be, for most of them, summer settlements.
