International audienceThis paper deals with the different linguistic means of referring to the other’s stand, opinion, point of view in linguistic research texts in French and in English. We point out that the linguistic category of reported speech needs to be reconsidered in relation to its use in this specific textual setting and we define it by means of the concept of endorsement. On the basis of linguistic markers, we show that the field of reported speech represents only a part of the other’s voices in research texts and needs to be clearly distinguished from utterances referring to the other by means of a description of his/her research activity
