Invited presentation at the SPEC (Service de Physique de l'Etat Condensé) seminar at CEA Saclay,Computer arithmetic deals with representations of numbers, algorithms for computing the operations and methods to manage errors and specific behaviors during the computations. All these aspects are linked and impact the performance, silicon cost and energy consumption of implementations in digital circuits. The talk will introduce several solutions and tools from computer arithmetic to help hardware designers to optimize their numerical circuits with a specific focus on speed and energy
