La santé : de l'éducation à la pédagogie

National audienceThe present contribution examines the terminology used to designate Health and/or Therapeutic Education. This reflection rooted in the field of Educational Science will enable us to recognize notions which will bring about (this is the challenge we are facing) progress both in the field of research«on» as well as «for» Health Education. The objectives of Health Education are clear: to bring about a change in behaviour and in this way, a change in patients’ attitudes, inculcating a more positive outlook with regard to health. As it has been stated that Health Education is really a question ofteaching with reference to the given framework,we will be able to show to what extent the elements encompassing reflection in the area of education in general and in the school context in particular, play an integral role in Health Education. The holistic concept of the patient cannot be disregarded and envisages taking the patient’s socio-cultural environment into account. The importance of medical knowledge in taking care of the patient, even though it remains central, is not sufficient to engender the necessary changes in the patient’s behaviour and relationship to the self, changes that Health Education sets out to achieve.La présente contribution questionne la terminologie utilisée pour penser l’éducation à la santé et/ou thérapeutique. Cette réflexion, ancrée dans le champ des sciences de l’éducation nous amènera à évoquer des notions qui permettront, (c’est le pari que nous faisons), une avancée tant dans les travaux de la recherche « sur » comme de la recherche « pour » l’éducation à la santé. Les finalités d’une « éducation à la santé » sont claires : transformer les comportements et ce faisant, les attitudes des malades, en vue d’une conduite « plus favorable à la santé ». Après avoir constaté qu’en matière d’éducation à la santé il est véritablement question de pédagogie de la santé en référence au cadre que nous retenons, nous en viendrons à montrer combien les éléments structurant la réflexion dans le domaine de l’éducation en général et le milieu scolaire en particulier sont également contributifs des réflexions qui traversent l’éducation à la santé. La conception holistique du malade s’impose jusqu’à envisager la prise en compte d’un « malade global dans son environnement socioculturel ». La place de la connaissance médicale dans la prise en charge du patient, si elle reste centrale, ne suffit pas à penser la transformation attendue du malade, transformation que vise l’éducation à la santé en matière de comportements comme de rapport à soi
