This article presents the contributions of Brazilian Psychology to the study of deafness. National journals, categories A, B, and C were reviewed and 34 articles were selected and analyzed considering the concept of deafness, the core issue and the kind of publication. The main results, concerning the publications made between 1995 and 2005 show that: (a) the socio-anthropologic concept of deafness prevails among Brazilian researchers; (b) the issues of main interest are language, cognitive development and family relations; (c) 15 of the articles found were literature reviews, 16 were empirical research reports and 3 were reports of practical experiences.
