This article examines the use of myth in written literature, analyses the views of foreign scholars on the emergence of myth in modern Kazakh literature, shows the role of myth in the poetic structure of modern Kazakh literature. The author dwells on mythical images and mythical plots in works by Dukenbay Doszhanov, Takhawi Akhtanov, Askar Altay, B. Sarybay. The new challenges in the research of mythology in the Kazakh prose are clarified
