Wittgenstein had strictly logical reasons for postulating a transcendental subject in the Tractatus. Without this subject it would be impossible for the Tractatus to deal with the constitution of the propositional sense. It is the transcendental subject who associates names to objects, and performs logical operations such as negating, quantifying and counting
