This proposed three years research aims at finding the morphological and area changes of the eleven reef islands of Makassar, due to abrasion as well as identifying it causes as to support mitigation planning for abrasion. In this first year, this research was conducted from June to October 2013. The islands changes were calculated through ground truthing using GPS (Geographical Positioning System), which recorded the coordinate of the islands??? coast. Data recorded from GPS were then transfered to ArcGis, a Geograhic Information System (GIS) program. To identify the causes of abrasion and its historical process, participatory mapping was conducted to 25 key persons. Participatory mapping results showed that in general, island???s abr...
