An Analysis of risk Factors In the Incidence of Diabetes Mellitus At The General Hospitals In Southeast Sulawesi Province In 2010

Pada Tanggal 21 Oktober 2011According to World Health Organization, Indonesia ranks fourth in the number of diabetes mellitus patients after India, China, and the Unites States of America. With the prevalence 8,6% of total population in 1995, there were 4.5 million people suffered from diabetes mellitus and it is assumed to increase to 12,4 million patients in 2025. The study was analytical observation using a case control design. The number of diabetes mellitus patients as a case was 70 people and others disease as a control was 70 people. The analysis used in the study was odds ratio (OR) at the level of significance 95%.\ud The result of the study indicate that obesity OR= 2,728 (1,339-5,561), stress OR =1,539 (0,814-3,117), physical activity OR= 2,213 (1,081-4,171), family history OR= 7,250 (3,309-15,883), and diet pattern OR= 2,556 (1,290-5,064), are risk factors in the incidence of diabetes mellitus. The most dominant factor affecting the incidence of diabetes mellitus is family history in which OR=11,921. it is necessary to spread information on the incidence of diabetes mellitus by avoiding marrying to those who have diabetes mellitus heredity history, keeping normal weight, reducing stress, doing sport regularly, and avoiding the consumption of food with high glucose in the blood
