Karakterisasi Morfologi Peronosclerospora spp., Penyebab Penyakit Bulai pada Tanaman Jagung, dari Beberapa Daerah di Indonesia

Downy mildew on maize in Indonesia can cause total loss of yield on susceptible varieties. Previous\ud studies indicated that in Indonesia downy mildew is caused by three different species of the genus Peronosle-rospora,: Peronospora maydis, P. philippinensis and P. sorghi. To determine the distribution of those species, downy mildew\ud infected leaves were collected from three areas in Indonesia, namely: Medan (North Sumatera), Kediri (East Java)\ud and Maros (South Sulawesi). Conidia of the fungus were obtained from infected maize leaves by putting clear\ud duct tape on the lef surface with symptoms at 04.00 am. The tape was removed and then stained with methylen\ud blue and examined under microscope. Conidia pictures were taken using a digital camera connec-ted to the\ud microscope. The result showed that conidia of each of those isolates had unique shape. The conidia col-lected\ud from Medan, Kediri, and Maros were oval, spherical, and elongated ovoid to round cylindrical, respectively. In\ud comparison to the standard isolates, conidia from Kediri were identical with P. maydis conidia, conidia from Medan\ud were identical with P. sorghi conidia, and conidia from Maros were identical with P. philippinensis conidia
