CAS - CERN Accelerator School and KVI: Specialised CAS Course on Small Accelerators

These proceedings present the lectures given at the nineteenth specialized course organized by the CERN Accelerator School (CAS), the topic being Small Accelerators. It is the first time that this topic has been selected for a specialized course, but, taking into account the incredibly large number of small accelerators currently in operation around the world, it was felt that such a topic should definitively be incorporated into the CAS series of specialized courses. The programme is essentially composed of three distinct parts: firstly a so-called ‘core curriculum’ introducing the basic accelerator physics common to all machines, such as relativity, longitudinal and transverse dynamics, space charge, and beam formation. The second part deals with the different types of machines, starting with DC machines, linacs, cyclotrons, and extending to synchrotrons. The final part is dedicated to the specific applications related to these different machines
