Two technologies are being investigated as photon detectors for the LHCb RICH counters : hybrid photodiodes and multi-anode photomultiplier tubes. This article reports on the performance on a Hamamatsu multi-anode PMT in detecting Cherenkov rigns in the prototype LHCb RICH. It is compared with the results achieved with 61-pixel hybrid photodiodes.
