We first investigate the relationship between calculations involving cutting rules and those by computing Feynman diagrams. This relationship is made evident with the explicit evaluation of the one- loop amplitude gg $\to$ gH. We then investigate the applicability of using cutting rules to calculate multi-loop amplitudes; specifically in N = 4 super-Yang-Mills. With the knowledge of how tree-level gravity amplitudes can be expressed as 'squares' of Yang-Mills trees leads us to be able to use the same cutting techniques to evaluate multi-loop N = 8 supergravity amplitudes. One of the implications of this gravity calculation is that there is no N = 8 supergravity four- point counterterm at three loops in four dimensions as previously expected
