The 21st century will be characterized by urbanization, as the number of people living in cities will continue to rise. As cities continue to expand, their impact on the environment does as well. Rising urban temperatures, increased risk of flooding and the loss of habitat of local plants and animals are just a few of the problems with which we will be faced. Nature, however, can also deliver solutions to these issues by providing benefits (or ecosystem services) to mankind.
