© 2017 Elsevier B.V. In many engineering problems, it is customary to use viscoelastic materials in the passive control of structural vibration and noise radiation. The most commonly used numerical tool to obtain detailed information on the performance of complex structures is the finite element (FE) method. However, structures with viscoelastic materials often require very large-scale FE computational models to obtain reliable predictions, which makes original full-order system evaluation intractable due to memory and time limitations.
