This paper deals with the challenges encountered in the creation of terminology for specialized, technical and scientific communication, and focuses especially on the phenomenon of borrowing. Next to term creation in the source language, another challenge is raised by the need for multilingual communication, where terms have to be translated and equivalents have to be found in different target languages. How do pluricentric languages behave in the choice of terms? In a second part of the paper, we will draw the attention to the very specific challenges of domain dynamics and domain loss in specialized communication.status: publishe
