Machine understanding for interactive storytelling

This paper describes our research-in-progress which integrates several domains, in particular natural language processing and the development of virtual immersive environments. Our research aims at "bringing a given text to life" via an immersive environment where the user can freely explore the surroundings and increase his understanding of the given text. We describe some important challenges in achieving this goal and outline our current research results.
