The present paper – a work still in progress - focuses on the activities of Colonel Andrej Konstantinovič Prežbjano (1885-1963) the Military Attaché to Belgium during the First World War and the Russian Civil War. Although he was practically cut off from his home country Prežbjano seized every opportunity to maintain and strengthen the relations between Russia and Belgium. What follows is a reconstruction of Prežbjano’s deeds between 1914 and 1922, when he finally had to accept that Imperial Russia was no more. This paper is largely based on Prežbjano’s memoirs that appeared in the Russian émigré paper Vozroždenie between 1933 and 1936, and on Russian and Belgian diplomatic and military sources.status: publishe
