Belgium was one of the first countries to introduce e-voting in its electoral process. Belgium's electoral law, enacte din 1994, regulates electronic voting systems for use in general elections. These systems constitute tools that promise security, secrecy, reliability and validity in any electoral process. The decision to introduce e-voting was intended as a way to resolve some problems of validity and trust affecting the traditional electoral system. The goals of reducing the costs of elections, obtaining results quickly, and to make rightly polling-station, were all taken into account in enacting the law.
