The effect of the provision of simple objects to stabled horses on their behaviour was investigated to determine whether these objects can affect horses’ behaviour in a positive way and thus enrich their environment. A positive influence can for example be measured by a decrease in stereotypical or abnormal activities. In this study, 35 horses were observed in their boxes during three observation periods per observation day. Each observation period lasted one hour and during one hour, each horse was observed 30 times. The observation periods were at noon (11:00–12:00h), in the afternoon (15:00–16:00h) and in the evening (20:00–21:00h).
