Introduction Given the specific characteristics of the Flemish educational system in an international framework, we are compelled to a clear conceptualization of the term ‘option choice’. In Flanders, students cannot choose separate subjects but they have to choose between different study programs (i.e., a fixed package of different subjects, for example, Latin‐Sciences). Therefore, the term subject choice would be inappropriate against the background of the present paper.
