The current Chilean technological context has greatly favoured adolescents’ internet use, particularly for educational purposes. However, most literature on Chilean children and adolescents’ uses of the internet has mainly concentrated on formal educational contexts failing to account for those learning processes which take place outside the school. Motivated by the finding that most adolescents’ Internet activity takes place outside school settings and based on a ‘youngster centred’ perspective, this article provides an account of what Chilean youngsters are doing online and the way these processes are influencing their learning experiences outside school.
