Stable suspensions based on methylethylketone (MEK), n-butylamine and nitrocellulose were developed for the electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of Al₂O₃ and ZrO₂ powder. Deposits with a high green density, smooth surface and high deposition yield were obtained upon adding 10-15 vol.% n-butylamine in combination with 1 wt.% nitrocellulose. The influence of the reaction between MEK and n-butylamine, forming water and imines, on the electrophoretic deposition behaviour was investigated.
