The principle of Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR) in Periodontology is based on mechanisms of cellular handling, using physical barriers to promote a total sealing of a tissue defect with viable cells and promote periodontal regeneration. Based on the osteopromotion’s concept, the barrier is placed in direct contact with the surrounding bone surface to prevent other tissues, especially connective tissue, from interfering with osteogenesis and the direction of bone formation.
