Over the last century and a half studies in the Sîra have often lead to a devaluation of its historical value. The discredit that affects the textual tradition ascribed to Ibn Isḥâq (d. 151 a. h./ 768 a. d.) is coupled with the assertion that the Koran is the only primary source for the study of the earliest period of Islamic history. Though the Koran makes frequent reference to its initial context of enunciation, its object is not to relate these events. An examination of the treatment that Ibn Isḥâq gives to scriptural data from the Medinesse period shows that he developed a method of historical inquiry the results of which modify the concept of revelation as it is found in the Koran.Les études consacrées depuis un siècle et demi à la Sîr...
