The method applied in the typologic study of zircon populations constitutes a useful means of solving petrologic and comparative petrologic problems. The typological characteristics are essentially controlled by the chemistry (Aluminium/alkalines ratio) and the temperature of the medium of crystallization. The magma water contents, especially the granitic ones, control the zircon crystallization period, thus indirectly, their typology. Other morphological characters of the crystals enhances the typologic method. The main applications of the method include the genesis of acid magmas (granites, rhyolites), origin of detrital particles in sediments, origin of material in epi and mesozonal non migmatitic metamorphic rocks of ortho or para origi...
