Alluvial platinum was obtained from rivers draining the western edge of the Freetown Intrusion, Sierra Leone from 1929 to 1949, although the precise source of the platinum is obscured by the jungle and the depth of weathering. Recently, eluvial material from the area of Guma Water has been examined using an electron microprobe and a scanning electron microscope. In addition to platinum-iron and osmium-iridium-ruthenium alloys, distinctive pyritohedra of laurite (RuS₂) and erlichmanite (OsS₂) occur with tulameenite (Pt₂FeCu).
