This study is to be seen in the light of the ecumenical debate on the relationship between the agreement on basic issues among Christian Churches and the differences which still subsist. There appears to be a convergence towards the understanding of the Church as an instrument of man's salvation. Certain Christian traditions consider the Church as a mystery sanctißed by God to the extent of becoming free of sin itself and a source of salvation.
