The neurotoxic effects of inorganic lead, a common environmental toxic substance, include peripheral neuropathy in adults and encephalopathy in children. Behavioral changes including hyperactivity, short attention span, easy distractibility and impulsiveness have also been noted in patients with chronic lead exposure in childhood.
