Social Activity of Young Inhabitants of Rural Areas. (The Case of the LAGs Members)

Framework documents referring to effective management at different levels of public administration, making use of the theory of democracy, strongly point out the meaning and importance of participation of citizens in public decision making. The attention is also drawn to the growing role of social and human capital in the concepts of knowledge-based society and economy based on knowledge and information. They are expressed in social activity and become one of the key factors of development and competitiveness of contemporary societies and economies (local, regional or national). Obviously, this kind of capital is crucial and demanded in the rural areas where their deficit is really visible (especially when it is accompanied by the deficit of other resources which can potentially generate the development of a given area). This chapter is an attempt to analyze the level and scope of social activity among young inhabitants of rural areas, perceived as the notion of social capital of this category.
