Agglomeration of fine powders: a novel method of softpellet production

Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde ein neues, innovatives Verfahren der Softpellet-Produktion entwickelt. Softpellets stellen hierbei sphärische Agglomerate aus mikronisierten Wirkstoffen dar, die auf dem Gebiet der Pulverinhalation als Alternative zu interaktiven Mischungen aus mikronisiertem Wirkstoff und Trägerpartikeln eingesetzt werden. Während das Prinzip des klassischen Herstellungsverfahrens ein Ausrunden mittels Siebung erzeugter Start-Agglomerate in einem rotierenden Behältnis darstellt, erfolgt diese Ausrundung bei dem neuen Verfahren mit Hilfe von Vibrationen.Aim of this study was the development of a new and innovative method of softpellet production. Regarding powder inhalation technology, softpellets, i.e. spherical agglomerates of micronized drug particles, represent an alternative to interactive mixtures consisting of micronized drug and carrier particles. In contrast to the established method of softpellet production, comprising the formation of start-pellets by forcing micronized drug through the meshes of a sieve and subsequent spheronization of the start-pellets in a tilted vessel, the spheronization step in this new method of production is based on vibration
