With increasing digitization, IT decision-makers are increasingly faced with the challenge to deal with the modernization of legacy systems. The most appropriate strategy for the modernization project should be selected based on the companys external conditions. Therefore, IT decision-makers must know which factors influence the legacy system modernization strategy as well as the success of legacy modernization projects. In this Masters thesis, 15 possible factors influencing the legacy system modernization strategy and 14 possible factors influencing the success of such projects are derived from the literature and presented to IT decision-makers for them to weight using a survey.
