Could substance abuse make a contribution to art? [Madde bagimliligi san'ata katkida bulunabi·li·r mi·?]

For art, contribution of substance abuse is a controversial subject. The artists who are substance abusers claim that by the works they product during the intoxication, they express themselves better. This works are quite similar to the products of psychopathological art. Therefore, some questions arise: what are the correspondences and differences between the pure art and the psychopathological art? Are the effects of substance dependence to creativity positive or negative? Are the generalizations appropriate or not? During the last twenty years, some studies suggested that there are several psychopathological features in the creative people, especially in the artists. Specifically, there is a predisposition for mood disorders and alcohol dependence. On the other hand, some evidence indicates that the artists' creative act is negatively affected during the illness. Therefore, increase of the creativity during the intoxication may be dependent to saved ego strength
